Who is a good fit for therapy?

I generally work with millennials whose main concern is symptoms related to burnout. While burnout can arise as a result of other mental health diagnoses and symptoms, addressing burnout is generally most effective if you already have a toolkit of coping skills you can draw from around emotional processing, distress tolerance, and acute crisis. Because I work a somewhat limited schedule, my approach is not the best fit for those who would like extra support outside of weekly or biweekly sessions.

How long does therapy take?

Not the most satisfying answer, but it truly depends on the client! I’m happy to work with clients until they feel their goals have been met, so long as I feel like I’m able to support those goals and they’re able to continue working toward them. I will say that my approach isn’t considered a brief modality, so I generally work with clients for at least six months to a year, and often longer.

Looking for something more brief and targeted? I offer coaching for that!

How is coaching different than therapy?

Therapy explores the why behind what is troubling you - it is generally a deep dive into your history, experiences, and emotions and works to heal the wounds that underlie behaviors and emotions you may have identified as negatively impacting your life and/or functioning. Therapists must be licensed or associates under supervision in order to provide these services and are limited to the states they are licensed to practice in. Therapy with me is typically longer-term and more focused on holding space for your emotions in the moment

Coaching explores how to address the impact of these issues in one particular area of your life. It is more focused on problem-solving actions in the moment, rather than addressing the emotions underneath behaviors. Coaching may help you to get through a difficult situation or function in the moment and can be an added support to therapeutic healing work. Coaching is currently not regulated by any overarching licensure system or board. Coaching with me is generally more short-term and focused on education and changes in behavior, approach, or environment rather than your emotions in the moment.

Who is a good fit for coaching?

Generally, the coaching I offer requires you to already have some coping skills, especially around distress tolerance and emotion-regulation. It is also helpful for you to already have an awareness of any mental health diagnoses or patterns of behavior that impact the issues you would like to address in the coaching process

Coaching can be a great add-on to your current therapy work by helping to provide more in-the-moment, solution-focused support

Coaching can also help those who feel they are generally functioning stably, but are struggling to get through a stressful period or task

Coaching can be a valuable experience for those looking to explore a new approach to everyday experiences

What is burnout?

Check out this link for some great definitions and graphics about burnout (Please be mindful that this article - as most do - discusses food and exercise as ways to address burnout, which doesn't necessarily align with my approach)

Why are your fees so high?

My fees are high because that’s what allows me to support myself and provide therapy without getting caught in my own cycles of burnout. I do aim to keep 12-15% of my caseload at a sliding scale rate to increase accessibility where I can

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance at this time. I can provide therapy clients with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance, however I cannot guarantee you will receive reimbursement.

If you are hoping to utilize your insurance, I always recommend checking in with them first to see what they cover and whether they reimburse for services provided by Marriage and Family Therapy Associates (formerly Registered Interns), which I am. To my knowledge, coaching services are not covered by insurance.

Where are you located?

While I work out of Portland, Oregon, the majority of my work is via telehealth.

I serve therapy clients who are located within Oregon or Washington state.

Coaching with me is accessible from anywhere - so long as you have a webcam and stable internet connection

What are your hours?

I am currently in the virtual "office"

 - Tuesdays from 2-9pm

 - Wednesdays from 2-7pm

 - Fridays from 12-5pm

 - Saturdays from 12-2pm
